Cherry Picking

Image d'un clafoutis dans un plat à tarte en p...Image via Wikipedia

Our cherry tree is in overdrive! So many cherries, so many possibilities. Cherry jam of course is a classic. But you could also try this mouthwatering recipe : Clafoutis.

Originally from the Limousin, it is a baked custardy batter filled with cherries. And you don't need to stone them! Traditionally it is baked slowly and you could add some Kirsch if you have any.

Ingredients

2 tsp vegetable oil
75g plain flour
50g sugar
4 eggs
300ml milk
350g cherries

Method: put oil in tartin dish or a shallow cake / pie tin. Put this in the preheated (220C. gas mark 7).

Mix flour, sugar, eggs (1 by 1), milk and if you are using it, the Kirsch.

When the oven has reached the temperature, stir the cherries into the batter, take out the hot cake tin and pour the batter into it. Speed is of essence here.

Bake for 30 minutes and then let stand for 10 - 20 minutes. Can also be eaten cold.

Welcome to our world

Strasbourg ("Petite France"), 120° p...Image by Francois Schnell via Flickr

This is about a special area in France. Tucked away, just north of Strasbourg,
close to Wissembourg, on the French German border, is a small village called Lembach. Just a handful of kilometers away, is an even smaller village, well a hamlet really, called Pfaffenbronn.

We have lived here for some 30 years
now, a small piece of land we see as paradise. We came here, from The Netherlands and started a small holiday village with self contained homes for rent or for purchase. Over the years, we have laughed, heard stories, met fascinating people and discovered a unique part of France, off the beaten track, but close enough for many adventures and activities.

In our blog, we aim to share with you the stories, what goes on here, people we meet and what they have to say. We share with you the festivals, the wines, the harvests, the fun, the beauty and the enormously fascinating history which has moulded and shaped this region.

We hope you will enjoy what we have to say - and maybe be enticed to come and see for yourself.
